Extraordinary AGM – 20th June 6.45pm
The Hyde Street Youth Band’s AGM was held on Wednesday the 30th. Thanks to those who were able to make it to the meeting.
One of the AGM agenda items is voting on formal committee positions. Happily a number of positions have been filled, as follows:
- Uniform Coordinator
- Facebook and website administrators
Unfortunately other vital positions and roles remain unfilled. These are:
- Vice President (President in Waiting)
- BBQ Coordinators x 2 required
As an incorporated entity, the organisation is required under our Rules of Incorporation to have a Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer voted on by the members. As no nominations have been received and the incumbent office bearers are standing down it is essential that these positions are filled.
It is therefore necessary to hold an Extraordinary General Meeting on Wednesday 20th June 2018. The meeting will start at 6.45pm sharp and run for 30 minutes. This will reduce the rehearsal time for both bands a little. An adult representative from all band member families is requested to attend.
As well as voting on the unfilled committee positions we will vote on the musical director honorariums for 2018. We will also take the opportunity to run through the activities that are involved in running the band.
Parents from both the Youth Band and the Junior Band are strongly encouraged to become involved in the running of the Band. HSYB relies entirely on a volunteer team of individuals to keep the organisation running and the only people who receive any financial reward, which is, at best, a token, are our exceptionally talented and dedicated musical directors.
I will be 100% honest in saying that when I first took on the role of President, I did so somewhat begrudgingly. I felt I knew nothing about music or instruments and frankly didn’t want the extra work. Nevertheless I have found the role hugely rewarding. I have built relationships with many people I would otherwise only know in passing and have a sense that I have achieved something from which my kids have benefited not to mention others children and the community. In essence, I have actually enjoyed the role far more than I ever expected. It’s really not all the hard work that it may look or seem.
I am sure there will be members of the band who will be willing to take on the outstanding roles but may be a little scared off by what they think the roles may entail, how much time commitment is required and whether they have the skills to perform the tasks well. An outline of the tasks and responsibilities associated with each role can be found by clicking here which I hope will dispel any fears.
2018 will be my last year in the role as President and thus I am looking to the future to identify the band’s next President and support them to be ready to take over. Those taking on other positions can be assured that there are people around to help with a handover.
Please don’t assume someone else will take on these important roles. Don’t hesitate to drop me a line should you wish to discuss any of the roles and please consider how you can help.
We look forward to seeing you at the EGM on 20th June.
