Merry Christmas from Hyde Street Youth Band!

Hyde Street Youth Band busking groups have been out and about in the community sharing entertainment and Christmas music and raising funds to help take our bands to the Australian National Band Championships all the way up in Brisbane next year.

It’s been great to see the players form groups and further their ensemble skill learning. One of our young euphonium/baritone players, Jordan Doidge has been arranging and compiling scores for his group who have played at the Hobson’s Wetlands, Yarraville Farmer’s Market and after the recent Santa Parade along with Oscar & Friends who played before.

The Quintessence of Gus duo, Quinn (euphonium) and Angus (tenor horn and cornet), busked at the Black Friday sales at Westfield Airport West. With 2 days’ notice, they put together 2 hours of duets (with some solos) and had as much fun as the public! They played upbeat carols with a bit of swing, entertainment pieces, and some classical duets for good measure. It wouldn’t have been possible for these young players to put duets together without the most amazing service to brass players by James Moule of St.George Brass Band, Sydney, who has made so much small ensemble repertoire available to the public. So many thanks, and what a credit to Youth Banding across the country, helping young brass players develop their ensemble skills!
