Australian National Band Championships Solos

We couldn’t be prouder of our percussion section at Hyde Street Youth Band, who took out a clean sweep of all the sections in the Junior Solos at the Australian National Band Championships!
Junior Champion of Champions – Hyde Street Junior Percussion section!
Alexander Wilson – Junior Snare
Harrison Brink – Junior Timpani
Will Lawrence and Ben Smith – Mallet Percussion
We congratulate Ben Smith who won the Open Mallet Percussion, and Angus Irvin for winning the Junior Tenor Horn.
Our tuba players Imogen Handley and Fergus Moorehouse placed an incredible 5th and 6th in the Junior Tuba section, playing the test piece ‘The Old House’ by Andrew Batterham, who wrote our fabulous ‘Summit’!
Congratulations to our Junior Quartet entry of Evelyn Orme and Polly Jean Butterfield on Bb cornets, Victoria Briggs on tenor trombone and Imogen Handley on Eb tuba – together they are the ‘Brass Belles’! What a fabulous performance in the Junior Quartet section, placing fourth!
Great work Billy Stewart and James Lawrence (pictured with his Dad, Patrick Lawrence, our Vice- President and accomplished accompanist) for taking out 2nd and 4th in the Junior Bb cornet at the Australian National Band Championships, legends both of you!
Finally, from the bottom of our Hyde Street Youth Band hearts, we thank you, Patrick Lawrence, for supporting our players through their many solo performances, practices, soirée’s, and the mad dashes to accompany multiple kids, in multiple rooms at the Australian National Band Championships! It did our heads in just watching. You helped make all this possible with your musicality, dedication and humour. And of course, your wonderful, musical kids!
